Being Independent

Writing my life experience has been a long pending checklist on my wunderlist. On this blog, I’m going to share a small introduction about myself,  my new job at most happening city – Bangalore and last but not least the reason behind me choosing a job out of Chennai.

About Me

I’m Saravanan Sampathkumar, 27(during the time of writing this 😜). I’m a Full Stack PHP Developer. After a long struggle of being jobless, attending lots of interviews, I  started my career with PHP by working for a very small startup in Chennai. I was happy but that happiness did not last for long,  my company got closed and I was jobless again. But this time around with 6 months of work experience I gave three interviews and I got selected on all the three companies. Out of 3, I choose a mid size company and I worked there for 10 months as an Application Developer. After gaining some more experience, I wanted to try freelancing. So I quit, along with my friends I started freelancing. We got few clients and we were earning a good amount. Then things went wrong, my friends gave up freelancing idea and they joined companies. So I started all alone again and continued to freelance for the next 3 years and 8 months. This 3 years gave me lot of expereince and I learned a lot. I got few foreign clients, I managed to write Laravel packages, learnt a little of bit guitar in my free time, got new friends, etc. Also, I had my first flight trip during this period only. I flew to Hyderabad, Mumbai as Freelance consultant. I was happy. But I wanted more. So, I thought this is high time I should quit freelancing and try joining some company to meet new people, to learn more, prepare myself so that I can start my own venture in the future(Venture in the future, wow, that’s rhyming isn’t? 😂 ).

New Job at Bangalore

So, on the eve of Dec 31st 2017, I gave an interview for a startup in Bangalore and I got selected. While, this is not the first time I have got an opportunity to work in Bangalore, I have received them before too.  But then, I declined them thinking who will go out of Chennai? I don’t want to step out of my comfort zone you see. From my schooling till college, everything was very near to me and I never struggled for anything in my life. I had my brother’s guidance for everything I do. In fact, when I told my parents that I wanted to try freelancing, he was the one who supported and motivated me. So, this time around, I wanted to step out of my comfort zone, take risk and see what life teaches me. I accepted the job offer and traveled to Bangalore on Feb 4th 2018.

Reason behind moving out of Chennai

To be honest, my parents were trying to get me married. I felt like, I hardly experienced my life and  I’m not yet ready for this big step. And anyway, this being my last year of bachelor life, I wanted to make the most out of it. So I sat and made lists with things I wanted to do in my life before getting married. They are as follows,

I wanted to be Independent. To see how life is staying alone, away from all your relations and friends. Doing all your works by yourself.

I wanted to see how it will be to work in an environment where none of your colleagues speak your mother tongue(but my colleague who sits next to me in the office is from TN and its simply defeated my purpose 🤦🏻‍♂️)

I wanted to improve my English. Even though I know and speak English, I wanted to improve it by speaking fluently without any grammatical mistakes. Even starting this blog is for the same reason.

I wanted to explore. I love to travel alone.

I wanted to see how life is, if I stay out of my home town for 1 year.

All the above mentioned points motivated me to go out of Chennai and live a life out of my hometown. So, that’s how everything got started.

I have given a small introduction about myself and letting you know a bit of my life moments. I’m happy now as I started writing a blog about my life. See you soon with my second article.

Stay happy. Stay healthy.
